Canoe Trip

Ms. Kunstar’s Science 10 and Mr. Dyck’s Woodworking class had the opportunity to take out the School District’s 52’ canoe called Galtam (meaning ‘wide-face’). The classes were joined by Jim Jones and Mervyn Child.
With calm conditions, clear skies and smiling faces the students were treated to exploring the beaches, poking around tide pools, drifting over bull kelp beds (trying to catch the kelp crabs), watching seals swim under the canoe and investigate them and learning the rich history of the region, including local/traditional stories and traditional knowledge. This rich day of exploration and learning is one that they will not soon forget!IMG_0202 IMG_0277 IMG_0776 UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_22f9 UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_230a UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_2302 20180514_135857
