This semester Ms. Kunstar’s Biology 12 and Science 10 classes underwent the experience of hatching chickens, including being able to Live-stream the hatching online! During this time, the students were able to watch the development of the chicks in the eggs through the use of a technique called candling. This provided an opportunity to discuss how embryo development occurs, as well as the possible reasons for eggs that do not develop or stop developing in the eggs. As a group, Ms. Kunstar’s classes have been learning about DNA, mutations, genetic heritage and selection/ breeding of domestic animals for specific desired traits. Now that the babies are here, students are learning even more about different species, in addition to how much work it takes to take care of a baby!
